Floors
☐Are your floors slippery?
-Avoid slippery floor surfaces.
☐Do you have any scatter rugs inside the house?
-Remove scatter rugs, if you must use a scatter rug, use products to secure rugs properly to the floor.
☐Do you have to walk around furniture?
-Rearrange furniture out of main pathways and toward the wall.
☐Are there loose extension cords, cables or other wires that you have to walk around?
-Remove extension cords, cables and other wires across the floor and walking areas.
☐Do you have any unnecessary objects and clutter scattered in the house?
-Remove clutter inside the house.
Bathroom
☐Do you need support getting in or out of the shower or toilet?
-Install grab bars or rails by the toilet and shower.
☐Is your shower floor slippery?
-Use a non-slip mat in the shower.
☐Do you feel unsteady in the shower?
-Use a shower bench or stool in the shower.
Kitchen
☐Do you leave spills on the kitchen floor?
-Clean up spills immediately.
☐Do you have to reach up high to grab items off of kitchen shelves?
-Store frequently used items for cooking at waist height for easy access.
Lighting
☐Is the lighting inside and outside of your house inadequate?
-Good lighting inside and outside the home is important.
☐Are the pathways inside your house dark?
-Consider using night-lights and hallway lights inside the house.
Steps and Stairs
☐Do you have any steps inside and/or outside the house?
-Install a firm handrail on at least one side of the staircase.
-Highlight stairs to mark edges.
-Use non-skid products on the steps.
Other
☐Have you ever slipped outside the house?
-Maintain outside paths by removing leaves.
-Consider using non-skid coating on bricks.
☐Do you have a pet?
-Be careful not to trip on your pet.
-Consider putting a bell on the collar of your pet.
